Microsoft Office® Custom Programming Microsoft's Office® suite is a much used collection of applications in many law offices and firms. There is a good reason for that... Programmability! Office has an underlying programming language called VBA that allows a skilled programmer to create custom software for attorneys who do not wish to purchase other software. How can a firm benefit from using Office in that manner? Most attorneys use the Microsoft Access® database in one way or another, and many use Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets to "maintain the books." This is especially so in smaller offices or with individual attorneys who may not have the budget for the sometimes expensive legal software that's available. It is relatively inexpensive to create a series of linked Excel spreadsheet files that allows one to keep up with cash flow. Some offices have balanced the books in Excel only, for many years. |
